(17,019 posts)75. I'm pretty sure that retired Generals are Generals, not that it really matters.
Generals, retired or not, are as fallible as anyone else.
The "old Army saying" that "a civilian outranks a General" strikes me as pretty odd. Certainly a few civilians, in the chain of command, outrank any General - is that what the saying is meant to convey? It doesn't mean that that any civilian outranks any General, correct? To the best of my knowledge, we didn't have a similar saying in the Navy.
I do agree with your opinion of Sander's & Trump's behaviors.
