I was born again when I was six, baptized at age nine, and attended Los Angeles Baptist College (now The Master's College). I was a fundamentalist Christian until about the age of 23, when my world fell apart. It wasn't until then -- I was a late bloomer -- that I began to question my beliefs.
I'm now 49, and I waver between agnosticism and atheism.
My first instinct upon reading this comment of yours was to say BULLSHIT. But it's only bullshit if there is a god. If the god of the bible exists, then I say to you, this is bullshit. If the bible is truly the inspired word of your god, your god is fucked up. To have a group of boys torn apart by wild animals for taunting a bald man? That's just? That's righteous? BULLSHIT! And that's just one of myriad examples of why your god, if he exists, is fucked up.
But for my second reaction, the atheism kicked in. Why should I care?
Believe what you want. But take caution when trying to recruit people. You might be -- just as justly and righteously as the boys being mauled -- kicked in the teeth.
