(20,166 posts)It doesn't really resolve my question for me, though. I can't get past a Deity with the characteristics I've listed deciding to create such a convoluted world and then punishing everyone for it.
I'm the father of three children. If I were omniscient and knew that by bringing them into existence I would run the risk of damning any one of them to some awful fate like drowning in a flood because I was angry at the way they chose to live, I'd probably choose not to bring them into existence.
Building on that, I also wouldn't remove myself from direct encounters with them and choose to communicate to them through other people or by giving them ambiguous and often contradictory writings that are supposed to help them avoid drowning in this instance or to avoid hell in the common Christian way of understanding it.
And so on.
I hope you don't take this as mocking you. Based on what you've written, I used to share such views a long, long time ago. I have studied the Bible on a personal level and on a college level. The questions/observations I've raised here are ones that I've asked myself and have pondered for quite some time and they've led me to a different expereince of "GOD" than the one implied by your posts.
