(114,502 posts)and discarding or giving back the individual sealed bags of nuts AND screening the countless candy bars that contain nuts or are made with nut butters/products. Unless the kid is an older adolescent/teen (who is educated and self-responsible enough to identify and avoid these products), it falls to the parent to double check that.
As much as I DO truly sympathize with parents of children with severe allergies and totally agree that eating nuts around them in school should NOT be allowed where inhalation is a possibility, nuts and products manufactured with nut butters or byproducts are a reality. It is not a crime to give out sealed bags of nuts any more than it is a crime to give out candy that MAY contain nut products. They are not going to be banned. The onus does fall on the parents to intercede.
