(14,693 posts)What do I find problematic? That's a huuuuuuuge question. I don't know exactly what you specifically are asking. Problematic with what? Losing so much in Governorships and local elections all across the country? Yes I do. And the strategy, since Bill Clinton, to out-Republican the Republicans by implementing a "third way" strategy. In effect, join the Republicans in wooing big business and Wall street into their (our) tent, even if it crowds out a big swath of grassroots Democrats that are uncomfortable with that. Moving towards the GOP playbook of prioritizing 1 percent of the population as more valuable than 99 percent of the rest, when it comes to the economy. (While differentiating themselves on social issues).
They could see the GOP get huge donations from the corporate class, and wanted in on the cash. Hence things like support for the TPP, for the oil pipelines, while catering to conservatives on social issues like traditional marriage only, pot prohibition..all of those reversed only when it became safe to do so, or there was too much criticism.
Backing DINOs in State elections instead of actual Democrats with progressive ideals, even though if the choice is a Republican or a faux Republican, voters will vote for the Republican almost every time. The fear of simply standing up for progressive forward principles and having faith that people will come around eventually with enough information. That the top brass of the Democratic party has fallen for the false Fox News meme that America is a conservative country, when if you ask each person specific questions on liberal policies, like minimum wage, SS, medicare, public education, hell, even the ACA, they support them.
So to me, I have a problem with the cowardice of giving up, and trying to act all family values, (Hillary: my favorite book is the Bible), and being coy about $200,000 dollar speeches to Goldman Sachs, declaring that Single Payer "is never going to happen"...... I say be bold. Be positive about the possibilities. Be proud of being liberal thinking people. Sanders proved that if you are honest and show people that you stand by your convictions, even someone who openly calls himself a socialist, can be the most popular politician in the country. The establishment Democrats in Washington are still clinging to their failed 'third way' top down strategy in a lot of ways. Embrace your liberalism. Don't be afraid of it. Or you look wishy washy and are easy targets for RW hate media. If they are going to hate you anyways, why not actually give them something to get mad about.
I know you are not being snarky. You are one of posters with maybe an alternate opinion that is more civil about it, I appreciate that.
