Go there if you can. It's been some years since I was there and I'm sure it's all changed, but still fascinating. I've been to Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guilin, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. I also was at the old airport, very warehouse-like. Flew from Guilin to Guangzhou in an old Russian Antonov prop plane. It was so humid outside that when they finally turned on the AC. Next, condensation started coming out of the vents, fogging up the plane's interior. Some of the Americans on the plane started freaking out because they were certain the plane was on fire. I'm sure that most of the Chinese passengers were snickering at the panic. I certainly was.
I went because digging a hole in the back yard never got me there and I was curious.
