Saudi-Arabia started dumping cheap oil on the market years ago in a plot to kill fracking in the US. (The low price of oil for example ruined Venezuela's economy.)

Except that fracking didn't die and Saudi-Arabia is bleeding money. A joint conference with Iran was meant to drive up the price of oil again by cutting oil-production, but neither side believed that the other side would stick to the deal. So no deal was made.

If Saudi-Arabia were to go on with an economy, and an oil-price, like this, they would be bankrupt in 2-3 decades. So Saudi-Arabia is changing its economy in a desperate bid to move away from oil.

The ideology of ISIS is ultimately rooted in saudi Wahabism. If ISIS falls in Syria and Iraq, they will have no problem finding recruits just across the border in Saudi-Arabia. And the western-affiliated House of Saud will make a perfect boogeyman and scapegoat for ISIS. That's why the House of Saud cannot allow religious extremism to rule Saudi-Arabia any longer. They are trying to preempt it.

According to climate-change models, the whole area around the Persian Gulf and especially Saudi-Arabia will get hotter and hotter over the upcoming decades up to the point where, by 2100, eastern and central Saudi-Arabia are night-uninhabitable to humans.
