3. The "medical school" at CU Denver has numerous non-MD programs

You can study to be a research scientist (in, say, neuroscience) within the medical school, but your degree would be something like an MS rather than an MD. The early reports say he returned to Colorado for "graduate school," which is a strange way to it it if you're pursuing an MD, but not if you're pursuing an MS.
