(6,301 posts)- They may not be legal where you are
- They require you to be within melee range of an attacker, when you want to have as much distance between you and the attacker as possible.
- The blades arent long enough. I saw a video where one took effort to and barely scratched a watermelon.
- They require you to swing or move your arms, meaning that the attacker can grab them and take hold of you. If youre female, youre slower and physically weaker than men. Once hes got you, the device may be useless anyways.
- The point is to get away, not inflict damage. Inflicting damage should be done with the goal of getting away.
- They scratch, which is next to useless in a self-defense situation. Youll just make the attacker more angry. I would rather be alive than be dead and have an attackers DNA all over my defense weapon (assuming the attacker is dumb enough to leave it there)
- They give someone (especially female with a male attacker) the sense of having more power in a life or death situation than they really do
- They need to be set up (make a fist to shoot claws out) when theres so little time to think and act. The attacker will be right on you in the blink of an eye if you werent ambushed already.
- Most men can overpower you. You need to do anything to get away. Go for the groin and the sensitive areas. Trying to scratch your attacker requires too much precision. Getting away and to safety is the most important thing.
IMO, theyre little more than novelty items that will get people killed more than theyll help. Opt for mace instead, imo. Just my personal opinion.
