Yes, was can assume his intent at the time was not to be hurtful or harmful. But he does not say anywhere that it was a joke that she was in on. He could have said it was a joke at the time and we all thought it was funny but looking back it's not funny. Why does he say it's obvious how Leeann would feel violated if he and everyone around him knew it was a joke she was in on?
