(32,640 posts)I think that there will be men who will use it as an excuse not to hire women to work with them closely, along the lines of Mike Pence refusing to eat alone with women. Men who don't think that what Franken did was out of line will assume that women are unreasonable enough to turn even a compliment into something that they can use to bring them down...
"The vice presidentand other powerful menregularly avoid one-on-one meetings with women in the name of protecting their families. In the end, what suffers is womens progress.
For every step forward, there is a backlash. This dam breaking is huge, and I fear that the backlash will be as well.
I heard this sort of thing from men in a workplace that did harrassment training. A man who was a superior let me know what he thought of that by saying, "I would tell you that you look nice today, but it would probably get me fired for harassment."
