They're not hiding from public view, but they expect their visitors to pay to read. Kind of like newspapers that charge for their printed edition.

You can walk by the newspaper box and read the headlines at the top of the front page, but if you want more, you have to put your quarters in the slot.

It's called the "news business" for a reason.
