She had a place at the University of Edinburgh, ranked the fifth best in the U.K.. During her gap year it was announced that William would attend St Andrews. Kate then cancelled her place at Edinburgh and applied to St Andrews, ranked 16th best in the U.K. They are not far apart in miles. There would be no logical reason to reject the better school and the vastly better city for the lesser one, unless you wanted to meet the boy whose photo you put up on your wall when you were a little girl and whose image you had looked at longingly every day of your life for many years.
