I think you mean you need to have some sort of TV subscription (one of the many services out there) to watch C Span. Oddly enough, it used to be totally free.

But I don't have a TV, therefore don't have any one of those services, so it looks like I can no longer watch C Span. And unfortunately, lots and lots of things I might otherwise watch likewise require signing in with a service.

I find I get along quite nicely without such things.

But I do understand your frustration.
