Homeless people are in abundance and living on the streets sleeping in sleeping bags (if they are lucky enough to have one that is). The ruling gov't is very corrupt and many banks went bust and many lost everything (pensions, etc.) during the crash! Things are not improving. NO.
As for Europe as a whole, it cannot be addressed. You have over a dozen different countries and many of the people do not get along with one another and never have in this myriad of places.
I've traveled to many of these places in the past and fairly recently as well.
I have many friends living abroad so I hear it all and it is not all good, believe me! One Irish person I know that is a nurse recently left Ireland for a job in Dubai as there is no work for this person to be found in Ireland, none! Status before moving to Dubai was "broke". Period. Such is the story for far too many others.
No more help as it once was for the elderly (they used to take them to/from medical appts., got a good break on RX's, telephone for free, health care, etc.). It has been bought and sold basically.
