(4,377 posts)Ireland has a population of 4.8 million, and at last count has 8,492 homeless people. Does that sound like a national crisis to you? As for corruption, they just had their deputy PM resign over a police whistleblower scandal. Transparency International run a Corruption Index based on perceptions of corruption in all countries around the world. The US comes in as the 18th best country, Ireland 19th (out of 176). Incidentally 12 of the 17 countries better than the US on the index are European.
As for the rest about Ireland, it's just bizarre I'm afraid. Ireland has full public healthcare, unemployment as of October was 6.1% (an 8 year low, Ireland was hit badly by the financial crisis). There has never in modern times been a time when the elderly were not helped, or where the sick were not cared for. There's been a lot of worry and complaints about service cuts due to the financial crisis, but those services still remain far higher than most people in the US would expect.
As for the rest of Europe, that comment about Angela Merkel is frankly offensive. Merkel is a decent person and democratically elected. The people of Europe largely get along just fine, as my friends from maybe a dozen different European countries can confirm as I write this from France.
