(23,185 posts)It's was well documented during the primaries that a number of people who were completely disillusioned with "the establishment" were drawn to both Trump and Sanders as potential anti-Establishment candidates. It got a lot of coverage at the time. Both Trump and Sanders were seen by a slice of the electorate not reliably Democratic or Republican as protest/change candidates. Those types were no more likely to vote for Hillary Clinton than they were for Jeb Bush, who in some non activist circles were both believed to personify the establishment that had failed them.
Hillary lost a small minority of the people who might have voted for Sanders on the Democratic ticket, and no doubt the same would have been true the other way around for possibly different reasons.
