In a series of tweets late Monday, the former head of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics made the case that President Donald Trump’s controversial tweet about firing former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn may open the door to special counsel Robert Mueller to look into the firing of former acting Attorney General Sally Yates.

When Trump fired Yates at the end of January, the White House explained the dismissal as the result of the fact that she refused to back him and implement his controversial travel ban. Following the firing , Trump reportedly declared that Yates had “betrayed” his administration.

Addressing Trump’s tweet and the revelation that Yates informed the president that she believed Flynn lied two weeks before his firing, Walter Shaub said a new line on f inquiry may have just opened up for Mueller.

“He didn’t fire Flynn until after the media exposed Yates’ warning to McGahn. This raises a question about Yates’ firing. Was she really fired over the discriminatory travel ban?” Shaub asked in the midst of a series of tweets outlining the White House firings.
