I was just using him as an example of someone trying to rebuild a political career. I don't believe Franken is a bad guy. I do believe he gave his opponents a cudgel and they were only too happy to use it on him. The Democrats are trying to clear the deck to go after Moore and they didn't want any distractions. Franken got caught up in the maelstrom.
I don't know what the proper disposition should have been. That's above my pay grade. I do know the argument that we (Democrats) asked a prominent senator of our own party to resign over relatively minor sexual transgressions while the GOP seats a child rapist is a strong argument going into the mid terms.
Short story, in any other environment Franken likely survives.
