Pence needs to hope the Mueller report comes out and doesn't implicate him.

It seems pretty clear at this point that Pence knew about Flynn lying about contacts with Russia when he was appearing in the media denying such contact. My suspicion (so far unencumbered by evidence) is that Pence was involved in the Russian contacts during the election.
