6. John Dean is not one of us

He was a Republican for many years until he broke with the party and became an independent. He's still a conservative however he has no interest in the "conservatism" that is in current fashion. (In other words he has nothing in common with the GOP as it is now.)

John Dean has an obvious hatred for Trump, and during W. Bush's two terms he advocated impeachment for W. So there's that. In his many writings since the Watergate hearings John Dean seems to admire the conservatism of Barry Goldwater more than anything. He thinks that Trump is destroying the Republican Party, and most of us would probably agree.
