(1,664 posts)Al Franken has not yet resigned. He said he would do that in the upcoming weeks.
What do you suppose would happen if we were to ask the Governor of Minnesota, Mark Dayton, to put a hold on naming a replacement?
Senator Franken needs to have the time and formal venue, while he is still in the Senate, to clear his name. He is NOT an abuser, molester or harasser. He's a normal man. He poses for photos with thousands of people. He puts his arm around people when posing for photos. Big frigging deal.
Once he clears his name, while still in the Senate, we can call for apologies from all 33 of those back stabbing creeps. And he will serve the next five years of his term.
I think it's worth a try to demand a hold on the replacement, although a slim chance. Dayton seems to be really tight with Lt Gov Smith, whom he is rumoured to favor for the replacement - so tight they have the same email contact (a little weird, see below).

Also calling Senator Klobuchar who did not call for Al's resignation but wasn't not effective at stopping the lynching. Don't know if or how hard she might have tried.
