(256 posts)... even that I am far away, I still vote and hope for things to improve.
I voted for Obama...
And I will vote for him again.
He is right now our best and last hope.
But, do not begrudge us who had the foresight to see the holes in the ship early on.
Do not begrudge us for acting early.
Do not begrudge those who had hope and now choose to leave with what little they have left.
Look around you.
If not for the surprise decesion by Justice Roberts, you wouldn't even have health care.
By leaving the US depending on where they can gain residency, they would immediately gain public health care at low cost. There are women in the US who now because of the poor economy are putting off having children. If they move to some countries in the EU they could receive coverage enough to support having a child.
Some people don't have time to wait.
My family and friends used to suggest to me to stay and stick things out and see how it turns out.
Well, look at the America we have today.
I know that it's not Obama's fault.
But, even I as a man have my own window of time within which I can raise a child.
Can I wait 5 years?
10 years?
Could my wife?
No.
Don't begrudge us.
We don't begrudge you for staying.
We worry about you.
We understand why you want to.
But at least, have a backup plan.
Before some of the countries in Central and South America fell into great divides between a small group of wealthy and masses of poor, they had a real middle class. They had their time, too, when some saw the writing on the wall and tried to fight for change. For the most part, they lost.
There is no guarantee that we will win the fight in the US either.
So, don't begrudge us.
As you fight for change, have a backup plan for escape.
