Seems to me the Jones campaign thought it was a bad idea for outsiders, especially northern liberals, to be seen as meddling. In addition, Jones declined to go to Washington for a fund raiser, for just this reason.

It could be that B Sanders and others were working behind the scenes.

Wednesday, October 17, The New York Times reported that national leaders, including Senators Chuck Schumer and Bernie Sanders, have appealed to Mr. (Randall) Woodfin to deploy his field organization to help Mr. Jones in the Special Election for the Senate.
