(5,763 posts)Racism and xenophobia are hardly a restricted to the US. You will be a foreigner there. And you are totally misinformed if you think other countries treat immigrant people better. In fact, despite anti-immigrant groups here and despite it's low scores on most social measures already cited, the US treats its legal immigrants better than almost every other country treats theirs (if not every country.) Not only that, the US is not very popular now. You will be a lightning rod for anti-US attitudes. Whenever the US does something stupid, your neighbors will hold you responsible. This is all true in subtle ways even in Canada.
Plus, since you're foreign born, don't think you're voice is going to count for anything with the government of the country you move to. It isn't. Depending on where you go, you also can't count on that for your children either.
I can understand the sentiment, though. I've thought of emigrating. Thought of it, but since I'm in poverty, I'd have to arrive as a refugee, which is hard enough. I'll wait until the humanitarian disaster hits and ride the wave out then.
