(3,922 posts)Clearly the time has come to acknowledge what the statistics, many U.S. citizens, and many people from other countries already have: The good 'ol U.S.A. is now just the 'ol U.S.A.
Anyone who travels through out the world - be it one or two countries or many - will notice that they are well-populated with happy, proud people who may want to visit America, but are in no apparent hurry to live here. There are, obviously, good alternatives out there.
One may argue that it's the duty of patriotic (before that word was subverted by republicans) Americans to stay and help build a better place. But that task is increasingly proving to be too daunting as we see an enormous slide in wealth distribution to the elite, a breakdown of public services - including demonizing public sector workers, and a sharp decline in quality of life measures that are being exceeded by other countries.
The sad truth for America is that the bigots and ignorant have really gotten a hold of power in many states. Supported and encouraged by the elite (as they laugh their way to the bank), the rest of us are derided as "socialists" or "liberals" (yes that has become a bad name).
The pursuit of happiness: it may lead elsewhere these days.
