New York Daily News (8/14): People with knowledge of Knights recent activities believe the shooting (In the West Hollywood 1 Oak club) was connected to the upcoming NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton, which is still in production, sources said.
One of the characters being portrayed is Suge, and he feels that if his image is going to be represented, he believes he should be compensated for that, one source said. He is bullying and threatening people because he believes anything to do with rap in Los Angeles means you have to pay him.

Hollywood Reporter: Straight Outta Compton is being directed by F. Gary Gray and is set for an Aug. 14 release. O'Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell are starring as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, respectively. The film is set in the 1980s and tells the story of the group's rise to fame.
LA Times: Straight Outta Compton tells the story of N.W.A., a pioneering rap group made up of Arabian Prince, DJ Yella, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E and Ice Cube...Modern-day rappers credit the group with making rap mainstream...Knight's affiliation with the production of the movie, if any, is unclear.
How Knight has been supporting himself since he sold Death Row Records in 2008 is also unclear. I don't suppose it's been easy for him watching Dre, Ice Cube, Jay Z, P Diddy and Snoop Dogg flourishing financially and personally while he's "just getting by." There's no mention of who's going to play Suge -- what kind of affiliation and compensation does he want? Equity as a front-end investor? Creative control over how he's portrayed? The opportunity to play himself?

It sounds like he hit his friend accidentally. But he injured someone else as well.

Sounds like he was mad at the way he's portrayed in the new NWA movie coming out.

A good lawyer would probably be able to get that down to involuntary manslaughter.
