That was the intent. To keep the Congressmen from profiting off of what they are in charge of regulating and writing laws about...

But with virtually 20 years of GOP rule in Congress, they managed to get rid of those sissy Democratic rules against conflict of interest in favor of selling out and getting rich after leaving Congress, to the point of selling out and getting rich while still in Congress.

The party crying that government is a problem and the rich shouldn't pay taxes, sure doesn't have a problem with lining their pockets with taxpayer dollars... What jerks.
