All we know is that she left their child in the care of the child's father. That's fairly 'normal' thing to do ... you know, for parents.

All I'm saying is that the possibility very much exists in my mind (at this point) that the mother is simply another abuse victim of a sociopath. IOW, I'm just not ready to condemn her to the same fate/category of 'evilness' as the person who carried out this horrific act.

That may change, but given the information at hand here, I don't agree with jumping to the conclusion that the mother MUST be just as culpable ... esp. because it very much sounds like she wasn't THERE when the attack on the child happened.
