(11,014 posts)Some are motivated by ideology and ideology alone without regard to the realities of electoral politics. The tea party also has the same defect and they start electing loonier and loonier candidates with a hope that the whole country wants the racist, socially cruel, hyperchristian gun-toting candidates who want never ending wars.
We have our own (green) tea party that would support Lenin, Karl Marx or Dostoyevsky in the opposite belief that confiscatory and anti-entrepreneurial wealth distribution candidates will win. ("Populist" is the PC term)
Obama touched that spirit and won the nomination. He was lucky to have won the general election because the massive economic downturn, widespread layoffs, fear of bankruptcy and Sarah Palin were helping him. Bernie will not have the benefit of those but the green tea party has enough hope that he will pull an Obama in the general election.
What is scary is that most of the small state caucuses are populated by the extreme viewpoints and Bernie may actually win the nomination against Hillary like Obama did. If he does, get ready to practice saying President Scott Walker or President Jeb Bush.
Sad indeed.
