Thursday, Vice President Joe Biden will bury his son, Beau, who died after a battle with brain cancer. That didn’t stop Senator Ted Cruz, who is running for president, from using Biden as a punch line for a bad joke on Wednesday night. Cruz was speaking to a group of Republicans in Michigan:

@sqwerin It sounded rehearsed. There was another part where he said if you walk up to someone and say "Joe Biden" they start laughing.

Cruz has told this joke before, on multiple occasions. (Business Insider described it as “nasty” in March.) Cruz apparently did not feel the need to alter his routine in light of the tragic death of Biden’s 46-year-old son.

After the event, a reporter asked Cruz why he told a joke about Biden in light of the circumstances. Cruz “turned and walked away.”

After being hounded by everyone on Twitter for his scumbaggery, the Canadian weiner finally typed out a half-assed apology and issued it via Facebook:

It was a mistake to use an old joke about Joe Biden during his time of grief, and I sincerely apologize. The loss of his son is heartbreaking and tragic, and our prayers are very much with the Vice President and his family.

Yeah, I'm sure he was heartbroken when he was up on stage smirking through his lame routine. Ditto for the chuckling asshole audience of the Michigan Republican party.
