(2,375 posts)False argument. No one is arguing that we do nothing. What people who haven't bothered to educate themselves on this contentious issue will never grasp is that Democrats richly deserve the distrust that gun owners feel toward them. Feel-good legislation that accomplishes nothing but waste of tax payer dollars. Legislation that amounts to nothing but culture war. The more you know about the history and evolution of the gun rights/gun restriction debate the more you realize that The Controllers are to blame for the stalemate we now face. (Well......actually it's not a stalemate. Gun rights, like gay rights are thankfully on the march forward.)
Were it not for dishonest rhetoric involving "assault weapons", "gun show loopholes", "plastic guns" that can evade airport security, "cop killer bullets" etc., etc. ad nauseum, we might have national universal background checks, and better data sharing w/regard to mentally defective persons. Of these two, the latter would be more significant since 5 out of 6 criminals don't attempt acquire guns through legal means. (surprise, surprise!)
