81. Gilbert killings likely domestic-violence incident, police say

Gilbert police confirmed early Thursday that they believe the killings Wednesday that shocked the community were not the result of a planned attack but rather a domestic-violence incident.

Police are basing that belief on the entire scene at the home, said Sgt. Bill Balafas, a Gilbert police spokesman, including the location of the bodies -- three of which were found inside the home, while two were outside -- and some of the statements from a woman in the home who escaped.

"There was a witness in the house," Balafas said, adding that the woman did not see the incident. "The witness heard arguing and gunshots."
