20. He was a reluctant hero, but the Forrestal rumors were the equivalent of Swiftboating.

They came from the same place that the "black illegitimate baby" came from. Any 'rumors' belong in the same file as that Kenyan birth certificate. Ugh.

I can tell you McCain's faults 'con brio.' He was crammed into the Academy, he was a problem child, he was a few pegs off being the class anchorman, he did crash a plane in training (four, total, were lost under his command, plus the one that was destroyed on the flight deck), but that Forrestal fire had nothing to do with him. He committed the "crime" of rolling the hell away before an explosion would have killed him.

HRC is right, and anyone trying to crap on McCain for his Vietnam service (and Forrestal was part of that whole era-that was the vessel's first deployment to the theater) is barking up the wrong tree and is close to Revulsion territory. Don't fall into the "At long last, sir, have you no decency?" trap--it never ends well.

You can see at this link: http://www.factcheck.org/2008/09/mccains-plane-crashes/ that he ws a hotdogger and attitudinal, but he was sitting on the deck waiting to launch when an a/c behind him launched their weaponry in his direction. There are THOUSANDS of people assigned to an a/c carrier. During that era, plenty of them were "reluctant sailors" (beats ground-pounding). It's impossible to believe that everyone on that vessel swore an oath of silence to cover up McCain's complicity in murdering 135 sailors and grievously wounding many more. It defies logic. It just didn't happen that way.
