131. Excellent point and excellent post. I also took note of his use of the word "birth mother."

I just didn't have the strength last night to work up the energy to explain why it was wrong and why Huckabee would say something like that.

OK, here goes:

People like Mike Huckabee are not just anti-abortion--they are pro-adoption. As matter of moral principle, they want EVERY SINGLE CHILD born out of wedlock to be given up for adoption. It goes without saying to him that the baby should be adopted out. And the expectant mother, who has no right to her own child, is really just a surrogate. She is already the birth mother. This, of course, is the mentality that leads to "Dear birth mother" letters.

Rape victims are definitely at risk of being exploited by the adoption industry. And if they are children (under 18) the adults in their life often don't know how to support them.

Here is a good wikipedia article on a situation like that, along with an article on the rape victim. It really seems like the PAPs and/or Bethany Christian Services (always the lowest of the low) took great care to feed her the words she was expected to say in the adoption paperwork, and to the judge. The rhetoric is just way too familiar.
