(15,185 posts)I know that even mentioning that is anathema on this site, but when prison psychologists are making several hundred grand a year and can collect a pension after just working a few years, something is really, really wrong with your state. At the same time, tuition at the UC's has skyrocketed (I wonder how much the president of those makes)...
Californians are heavily taxed as it is. And the cost of living is insane. Though, I definitely agree on possibly increasing taxes for the ultra wealthy (i.e. the movie stars and silicon valley execs). And the state needs a way to bring in more revenue by property taxes, though repealing that proposition would also hurt many seniors on a fixed income.
It's a very tough situation and I get the impression Jerry Brown is doing all he can to address the situation. I don't envy him.
