In reply to the discussion: Boehner Will Resign from Congress [View all]sofa king
(10,857 posts)... Many of us will be sad to see him go, because we are unlikely to have another opponent of his, um, quality.
However, I probably said something similar about the departure of Dennis Hastert, and Boehner was no more or less effective as Speaker, unable to coax his foolish herd into any sophisticated legislative action at all. Now that I think about it, Boehner crying in the presence of the Pope makes me wonder, exactly how well he is going to compare with Dennis Hastert down the road....
It's been kind of nice, actually. After over a decade of terrible Republican leadership in the House, that body has become an irrelevant charade that poops out volumes of ignorant and politically charged nonsense, all of which gets unceremoniously dumped in the back room when it comes time to pay the bills. Since they have no real plans, cannot generate realistic budget numbers, and just say no to everything, it's been blessedly easy to outmaneuver the Republicans in the House, and John Boehner was the most important rube of the lot.
