Part of the reason they went down is that they would take over local chains and botch the job. For example, take the gulf coast Katz and bestoff chain, aka "K & B" based in New Orleans got so sick of Rite Aid that they purposefully avoided them, to the point where there are almost no Rite Aids in NOLA.
