State supreme court upholds Indiana robocall law
Associated Press
December 29, 2011

The Indiana Supreme Court has upheld a state law restricting automated robocalls.

In a 4-1 decision Thursday, the court held the state law that requires a live operator on the phone before a recorded message doesn't violate the right to free speech.

The decision is the latest in a years-long legal feud between the state and FreeEats.com, stemming from political calls the group made in 2006.

The justices dismissed FreeEats.com's claim that requiring a live operator put an unconstitutional burden on its right of free speech.
