65. "Fellow traveler" is a good word for this.

Dates back to post-Soviet-Revolutionary days. People who were not revolutionaries but expressed solidarity with, worked with, and supported the revolutionaries. Some were informants, some worked hard for the revolution, some would assist in revolutionary activities to the point of picking up weapons to fight.

So the Farooks were/are fellow-travelers with IS or affine groups.

Russian word was "sputnik." The Russian media source is a play on words--bouncing off of the satellite rah-rah we-were-first point-of-pride rhetoric from the '50s, aiming their "news" at fellow-travelers who agree with Russia's geopolitics and goals and even punning slightly about somebody who is a with-Putin-person (s-Putin-ik).
