The hope in Saudi Arabia is Syrian President Basha al-Assad will step down without the use of military intervention, but, said Nebraska U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson, that option remains on the table.
One way or another, Nelson says, Saudi Arabia believes al-Assad must go.
“There is no question he has to leave," said Nelson, in a telephone conference call from Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. "I don’t think there is anybody here who is looking at this today that thinks he can stay,”
Nelson spoke with Saudi Arabian King Abdullah on Monday as part of a five-day trip to the Middle East, with stops in both Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
