New Hampshire is not a good predictor of the national Democratic primary. Never has been, probably never will be. The demographics just don't match up. South Carolina, on the other hand, is a state where the Democratic primary voters look and think a lot more like the "average" national Democrat. It's considered one of the strongest predictors.

For Republicans, however, New Hampshire is a very strong predictor. New Hampshire Republican primary voters line up pretty strongly with your "average" national Republican.

This was a very important victory for Trump, and a great (but not important) victory for Bernie.
