In reply to the discussion: Civil Rights Hero John Lewis Slams Bernie Sanders [View all]Bluenorthwest
(45,319 posts)47. John Lewis voted no on DOMA but he disppoints me by implying he met Hillary and Bill during the 60's
because that is simply not possible, he says he did not see Bernie there but he did see them and that can't be true. I'm a big fan of great precision in language when you are using language against another person.
Also he is endorsing Hillary who says DOMA was a defensive move when Lewis knew exactly what the intention was and spoke it clearly. John Lewis asked this of Congress:
Why do you want to destroy the love they hold in their hearts? Why do you want to crush their hopes, their dreams, their unions, their aspirations? We are talking about human beings, people like you.
He sure did not say it was needed to halt an amendment or that it was defensive. 'Why do you want to crush their hopes'.

He's not lying. He is a politician, indicating a preference for another politician.

He didn't lie, just said he didn't see him there. It's politics. Let it go.

This is not a fight worth picking. Going after Lewis plays into the wrong hands.

How would he know he didn't see him? Bernie would have been one of the many...
