that to mean that he knows how his appearances on TV events may come across to voters.

In an election year as important as this one, it may be important for him not to go on a show like Maher's until after the election, or at the very least, until our nominee and the Rethug nominee has been decided.

Strategically it's smart on the president's part---as per usual.
