(57,936 posts)Are you saying that what the white voters think doesn't matter in the Democratic Party?
I don't get your gist. Please explain.
I am as much a Democrat as any Southern Democrat, and my state is at most just barely 1/2 white. In California, racial differences are not so important. So Hillary will have to compete on some basis other than race in California. Here, the environment, the minimum wage and economic issues including Social Security and legalization of marijuana (not to me but to many other Californians that is a big issue) are important. Those are not big issues in the South to my knowledge.
I think that voters of all races are important in the Democratic Party and that we have to work together.
We all have dreams. Police brutality and racism are big issues in California -- for voters of all races. White people in California are just as outraged about these issues as are voters who are not white. It's just a different scene when it comes to race in California. So that may not be such a big issue here.
California lost a lot in the 2008 crash. It really hurt us. Many lost their homes. Student loans are also a big problem out here. Our state colleges and universities pre-Reagan were tuition-free. Reagan changed that. The Clinton revolution or deformation of the Democratic Party was not good for California. So the issues are a bit different here than in New York State.
Immigration is a big, big issue here. We do not like to see hardworking, wonderful, loving families divided up when dad or mom is sent back to somewhere and the children who are born here and are citizens stay here. We want families to be reunited.
I recently attended an arts show of portraits of Bernie. One of the best was done by a dreamer. We have a lot of very talented young people who are dreamers.
The issues here are not what they are in other parts of the country. And Bernie has come down very well on the issues that will matter here. I think he will do as well here as he has in other Pacific Coast states.
