(12,655 posts)dr drew, who i rarely listen to, made the point that IF prince died of an accidental od, he said EVEN IF YOU TAKE THESE DRUGS AS PRESCRIBED, they can get you into trouble. doesn't mean there is abuse happening.
also, he said that a middle aged man should not have to be on such meds chronically without the underlying issues being addressed.
there is too much "write and run" happening in the medical community. they take out their pads, write a script, and then once someone is hooked or cant function without the pain relief, they say too bad we can't just keep giving them out.
meanwhile, big pharma resists all other possible treatments for pain, medical mj, acupuncture, etc.
they want their payout. yes, it is a major public health issue and many want to look the other way and get their $$$$$$$
