In reply to the discussion: Sanders, Clinton to meet Tuesday [View all]BlueStreak
(8,377 posts)That is the simple reality, although so far that point seems to be beyond the grasp of the morons advising Hillary.
None of this has ever been about Bernie. It is about what is happening to our country, our democracy, our party, our way of life. This was evidenced in the Occupy movement. It has been shown in the Black Lives Matter movement. It showed in the Obama campaigns. And it showed again in Bernie's campaign -- and Trump's for that matter.
Millions of Americans see the system as rigged in favor of the rich and powerful. Millions of people see the middle class dream slipping away. Millions of people are concerned that their children and grandchildren will live in a world where their greatest aspiration is to be a consuming robot and to pay taxes mainly to feed a military system mainly engaged at protecting the incomes of gigantic multi-national corporations and their top executives.
Casting these concerns as "Bernie-lovers" or "Hillary-haters" is absolutely offensive, and I am damned sick of it. People taking that position completely miss the point. If Hillary is able to get elected, it will be a direct result of the support from these same gigantic multi-national interests and the media they control, not from a groundswell of democracy. Hillary isn't the worst person to be President (Trump may be). But our best hope with President Hillary is that the steady march toward the right-wing politics of these giant corporations may be slowed a little.
But here's the problem. BECAUSE this will not be a "groundswell" type of election, there will be no possibility for a change in the control of Congress. So even if Hillary wanted to be even a teeny bit progressive, she really can't get anything passed.
These are the reasons so many people have supported Sanders. It isn't about Bernie. It is about what is happening to our country.
Now we watch Hillary. Will she have the wisdom to actually engage the millions of people who are so very concerned about the issues Sanders has been talking about, or do they think they can win without the strong support of these millions of voters? This is a very simple political IQ test for Hillary and her campaign. So far, it looks like they are going to fail that test.
