No? Then your recollection is not compelling.
Sanders' supporters were also claiming that he would win because they remembered 2008.
It's true that Democrats will most often run their current campaigns as if they were running in the previous election, but the playing field is very different now, so there's no straight comparison to be made.
But if it helps ease Sanders' exit from the now-completed primary season, then so be it.
