(130,900 posts)because they don't want some off-the-wall comment reflecting badly on the company, even if it appeared on a Facebook page or some other source unrelated to the company. That's especially true of an airline, many of whose employees not only have direct contact with the public but are responsible for their safety. In this case, even though the remarks were not made in this asshat's capacity as an employee of United, I have no doubt they fell within the company's prohibition against material on social media that would cast it in a bad light.
I can't figure out why people haven't learned that what you say on Facebook or such outlets goes everywhere and has the potential to make them look like idiots, or worse. Yes, you have the Constitutional right to say any damn stupid thing (meaning, of course, only that the government can't shut you up), but you also get to suffer the consequences.
May this knob spend the rest of his aviation career flying discount charters to Las Vegas.
Come to think of it, he may no longer have an aviation career; the FAA requires a person to be "of good moral character" to hold an airline transport certificate (ATP).
