It's an academic discussion; interesting, but I don't have a strong stake. I think that the decision to give up personal value choices to the oligopic (oligolopic?) org has intent, and rewarding members of that org who best externalize costs and maximize profits via (immoral or amoral) methods -- that decision is purposeful, has intent. Intended to cause innate behaviors. But that isn't an argumentative position I want to pursue vituperatively with you.

That's where they are, where they're coming from, either way. In the o.p. story, the big money people find Manafort useful and charming. He thinks it's good to organize a foreign group of thugs to assault US troops. The big money people don't pull the plug on him, though they obviously don't want Putin to take over their game and nationalize their property, resources, cash, fixed capital. Whatever Manafort was pulling, it wasn't purely for personal gain, though. The people who look on the tool of their oligopoly that is Manafort see him as performing a useful function. Delegitimize and degrade the enemy US prez and his government's capabilities? Troops get to suffer collateral damage?
